At first Giambattista Valli Haute Couture show heroine was wrapped in a sheet. Then she put on her boyfriend’s pajamas, then his white shirt, and then she went for a walk in a beautiful garden, collecting garlands of flowers which she used to decorate plain white dresses. And then finally she turned into a fairy and tried on skirts made of carnations… Soon we’ll find out which of these bouquet-dresses would be chosen by Elena Perminova, the extravagant spouse of the owner of the British newspapers “Independent” and “Evening Standard” who wears Giambattista’s dresses perhaps best of all in the world.
Even during his time at Ungaro Giambattista made it clear that he has a great future. That’s what I told him, without a shadow of flattery in 2007 during the dinner in Paris Mathis Bar on rue de Ponthieu, where Giambattista invited me on the eve of his successful debut already in his own new-born Parisian fashion house.
Lee Radziwill and Diane Kruger adorned the front row on the show, and my favorite dress from the fall-winter 2008 collection went not to me, but to Charlize Theron for Moscow International Film Festival’s red carpet – well, at least she is truly a worthy competitor! However, the flower-dress from the spring-summer 2007 collection sewed to my own measures of a straw colored silk still hangs in my personal museum of fashion and reminds me how it was delivered from Paris by one of Alla Verber’s assistants just an hour before the opening of the red carpet.
