Gucci, one of the world’s leading luxury fashion brands, is pleased to announce both its direct entry in the Russian retail market and the opening of two new locations in Moscow scheduled for the second half of 2014, one in the Gum department store and the other a new four-floor flagship store at Petrovka Street.
Patrizio di Marco, President and CEO of Gucci, said: “The Gucci brand is one of the most desired luxury brands in Russia and, as a result, among Russian luxury consumers living abroad, whose influence continues to grow across the world and most especially in Europe.”
“In the last five years, we have been successfully enhancing the brand’s position through a carefully executed strategy that capitalizes on Gucci’s reputation as a fashion leader and its over 90-year heritage of Italian craftsmanship.”
Di Marco continued, “The decision to assume direct control of our retail network and operations in Russia is wholly consistent with our ongoing strategy to further enhance the consistency of our customers’ experience across different markets through progressively taking control of stores that have historically been operated by franchisees and wholesalers. The most recent examples of the successful implementation of this conversion strategy are in the United States, the Gulf and India.”
Gucci’s strategy in Russia will continue to focus on progressively taking control of the most relevant stores, while maintaining a limited number of monobrand franchising stores and doors in selected mutli-brand retailers.
Gucci opened its first Russian store in 1997 and currently counts a total of six stores in the market, including monobrand boutiques and corners in luxury villages and malls. With this announcement Gucci has taken over direct control of the retail network and operations for its three existing stores in the Moscow area – TSUM, Kutuzovskiy Prospekt and Barvikha Luxury Village. Meanwhile, the relationship with its local partners is continuing for its three stores outside Moscow, in St. Petersburg, Sochi and Ekaterinburg.
In the last year Gucci has also moved to strengthen its local operations with the Gucci Russia headquarters destined to become the brand’s hub for the entire CIS area with dedicated resources for Merchandising, Marketing & Communications, Finance and Human Resources.
