Frog in the space

The second season Jean Paul Gaultier makes the fire in Paris showing he is still “infant terrible”.
We remember “the dirty dances” of Coco Rocha on the catwalk of last summer pret-a-porter – it was organized in a quite distant location of Le Paradis Latin. But latest fall-winter 2014/15 pret-a-porter show was located even farther from place Vendome – in the19th district of Paris. In the very first steps to the Oscar Niemeyer building guests stopped complaining: the journey was worth it.

Remembering about Chanel space experience in Grand Palace gallery in the spring 2012 Haute Couture show, after Gaultier show started in this space-ship looking building interiors, we suddenly realized: Milla Jovovich and Bruce Willis in the “Fifth Element” which Luc Besson filmed in 1997 were equipped by Jean Paul Gaultier’s costumes. So who inspired whom is a big question.

Looking at the models on the catwalk and remembering all the comments and feedback I received in my social network pages on the posts of the previous fashion shows in Milan and Paris, I came to the conclusion, that people are tired of ideal models, they want the models to be distinctive and unique, and the models at Gaultier’s latest show fully complied the criteria. There were elderly beauties, so elegant, you won’t even think of calling them old, there were children with mohawk hairstyle. To make the scene complete there also should have been a baby, an attractive fatty in a daring outfit and Belka & Strelka.

Even with the absence of the above, the show was breathtaking: the extravagant outfits were even more impressive, than the originality of the models: overalls made of mink, richly decorated dresses, that reminded us of the queens of the Renaissance epoch. The audience roared with delight.

This time Gaultier’s traditional sprint along the catwalk took a bit longer, as the catwalk was pretty winding, and it was pleasant to see maitre’s mighty back with a coquettish lettering: “Frog in the space”. Everyone left the show in wonderful mood. You could read the buyer’s faces as if asking: “You suppose people will buy these outfits?” and the journalist’s faces as if answering: “We suppose, that these outfits are definitely worth sewing”.
