Ekaterina Glasstrunk: A number of miracles will happen

Glasstrunk bijoux © Glasstrunk

A necklace with a heart in its center. A girl’s shadow is on the wall of the compartment car. A ring with a green stone. A pin with a small crown in the high knot of blonde hair. Thin neck, round eyes. Round glass beads that hang like drops on a silver twig. Guns that are tied up with a pink ribbon. Click-click, Facebook, knock-knock…

Evelina Khromtchenko: Hello, Ekaterina! Your works are beautiful. I’d like to make a post about you on my website – www.evelinakhromtchenko.com with reposts on Facebook and Twitter. If you don’t mind, please send me your biography, so that I could formulate the questions for you?

Ekaterina Glasstrunk: Hello, Evelina. Thank you, I’m pleased that my works interested you. Of course, I’m very interested in your proposal. I just wanted to ask if it’s really you or is it some kind of joke?

E.K.: No, it’s me, it’s not a joke. I’m famous for finding new talents.

E.G.: Can you tell me what exactly should I write in my biography, to what kind of facts should I pay attention? I was born in Belarus, live in Minsk. Art education. I worked in a workshop of a stained glass. Jewelries in stained glass Tiffany technique I began doing it seven years ago. That is how brand Glasstrunk was founded. Also I work as a designer in a polish underwear brand SIN Clothing.

E.K.: Could you tell what is your exact occupation, what university you graduated? From what do you derive your inspiration? Who are your favorite painters? Why it is Louis Comfort Tiffany and his style that captivated you, because there are plenty other techniques for collecting stained glass. Why did you choose jewelry in particular? When did your personal creative handwriting formed? Why did you decide to work in the sphere of creating underwear? Why delicate lingerie of your production is advertised by a cat and a young man, and not as usual it is in commercial pretty-girls? Creative work – it comes from family? Are you the only family member who has a creative profession? What’s your favorite poem? Film? Book? Musical composition? Dish?

E.G.: I graduated from artistic college Bobruisk. The main points of my inspiration are people who surround me, my friends and my brothers-in-arms and, of course, the great artists. My favorite painters- Merab Abramishvili, Christopher Pearson, Leon Bakst, Renaissance artists, photographers Sarah Moon and Irving Penn. Tiffany’s style thrilled me, because he is the most brilliant representative of modernism. In general, this style gave me a powerful incentive to my development. This is what excites and ravishes me up to now. I didn’t quite choose jewelry, I gradually and imperceptibly for myself was absorbed in process and never emerge out of it. There was no starting point. My handwriting formed few years ago, when I felt pleased with my work.

My parent’s profession refer to creativity too, my dad was a photographer and my mom – a tailor. The creativity rather reveal in their mode of life, in their approach to education and world outlook. I started sewing when I was ten and thanks to my mother this handicraft has been always in my life.

Four years ago my friend brought me from France knickers from a flea market. I took a great interest in this piece and started looking for information about history of fashion and lingerie. I gathered a big collection of old patterns and then modernized the old patterns and started sewing sets of lingerie on demand. And after a time my friend advised me to establish a brand SIN. It’s a young company/firm and it has to differ from 2000000 other companies for pretty girl’s that also exist in the market. The author of the ad campaign is Alexander Konovalov, a cat and a man is his idea and his personification.

My favorite film is – “Tender Age” by Sergey Soloviev, I like books by Michael Ancharov “Boxwood forest” and “This blue April”. As for the music, I can mention “The National” and “Future Islands”. I don’t really have a favorite dish, I just love food and I’m always happy for fruits.
And my favorite poem is written by Svetlana Ben.
