Exhibition “Poetry and spleen. Female image in the Victorian era and the costumes from the collection of Alexander Vasiliev” in Tallinn

Russian fashion historian Alexander Vassiliev holds an exhibition “Poetry and the spleen. Female image in the Victorian era and the costumes from the collection of Alexander Vasiliev” in Tallinn. In the main art Museum of Estonia Kumu part of his collection of Victorian era is exhibited — more than 50 dresses and 150 different accessories. In the XIXcentury, no dress is complete without corsets and frameworks that support the crinoline. “In Victorian era women dressed 7 times a day. And today the same outfit is worn from morning to evening, sometimes for a whole week,” said fashion historian.
There is increased interest in the history of costume in the Baltic countries — exhibition of Alexander Vasiliev are now also in Riga, Ventspils and Vilnius. His collection, which consists of 55 000 exhibits, the famous collector was collecting for 45 years.
