AZZEDINE ALAIA “JE SUIS COUTURIER” exhibition in Paris

The “Azzedine Alaïa: Je Suis Couturier” exhibition will open on the 22nd of January during Paris Haute Couture Week to honour the late designer. It will feature a selection of 35 iconic pieces from couturier’s collections selected by Olivier Saillard. The venue for this true homage is significant: at 18 Rue de la Verrerie, the place where Azzedine Alaia lived and worked. The opening the late designer’s heritage, the title of which is taken from one of Alaia’s famous quotes: “I am not a designer, I am a couturier”, will highlight the forming of The Foundation Azzedine Alaia. The French couturier used to say: “I want to create a Foundation like a Maison in my home in the Marais”. In 2007, with the support of the painter Christophe von Weyhe and publisher Carla Sozzani was, the Association was established Azzedine Alaia, where he kept pieces of art, design and architecture, which the designer collected all his life. The space will now serve as a curated exhibition to celebrate the designer’s legacy. Foundation Azzedine Alaia in addition to exhibiting and storing collections, will serve cultural Institute: in the near future the establishment of a scholarship for young designers..
