“Azzedine Alaïa collector. Adrian and Alaia. The Art of Tailoring” is the first exhibition dedicated to Azzedine Alaïa lifetime passion, collecting masters of fashion, art, design. Curated by Association Azzedine Alaïa under the direction of Olivier Saillard, the exhibition dispalys the works by the French couturier Azzedine Alaïa and the American costumer Gilbert Adrian. Gilbert Adrian was the head of costumes at MGM in Hollywood during the 1930’s whom the late Tunisian couturier admired and collected over the years the most extensive collection of Adrian’s suits. Both of them were focused on the construction of the jacket. The exhibition showcases a pairing of a number of suits designed over the course of their respective careers in an effort to spotlight the similarities in the couturier’s tailoring, choice of fabrics, and cuts.

“Azzedine Alaïa collector. Adrian and Alaia. The Art of Tailoring” exhibition runs till June 23, 2019

Textile is the starting point and the key material of the fashion industry. Over the past 250 years, its composition and structure have altered appreciably. Fabric in Fashion exhibition is devoted to four of the most common fibers: silk, cotton, wool and synthetics. The exposition of more than 65 items of clothing and accessories – from mid-XIII century silk organza dresses up to wool coats of the 1960s and polyester and recycled fabrics designs – demonstrate the history and evolution of the fabrics: the way technical processing of textiles influenced the cut and the silhouette and the way mixing of natural and artificial fabrics practically destroyed the class affiliation.

Exhibition runs till May 4, 2019

Address: Seventh Avenue at 27 Street, New York City 10001-5992
